Forty-one S.4 and S.5 students of our school, led by 4 teachers, joined a student exchange program to Wuhan and Beijing during the summer vacation. More than 800 teen students from Wuhan (武漢), Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau were gathered together to study the great history of Xinhai Revolution and to appreciate the development of modern China.
With the help of various official bodies in China, students got a lot of unforgettable experiences. Students started with the special Bullet Train that carried hundreds of Hong Kong students and teachers from Guangdong to Wuhan. After 5 days in Wuhan, students flew from Wuhan to Beijing. At last, they took the Dragon Airline and returned directly from Beijing to Hong Kong. What a great journey it was - one bullet train ride and two air flights within one single trip!
Another unforgettable experience was the flag raising at Tiananmen Square (天安門廣場). Students woke up at 3:30 am and stood at Tiananmen Square waiting for the ceremony for more than an hour in rain. Our students were much privileged and honoured to be placed close to the stage to observe the whole process clearly and comfortably.
The most precious experience was the visit to the Great Hall (人民大會堂). More than 800 students and teachers gathered to have a photo with the CPPCC members (政協委員). Then students attended a talk given by Mr. Qiao Xiaoyang (喬曉陽先生), Mr. Zhou Tienong (周鐵農先生) and Ms. Elsie Leung (梁愛詩女士).
During the trip, students visited remains related to Xinhai Revolution and the development of modern China. In Wuhan, they visited the Uprising Square (首義廣場), Yellow Crane Tower (黃鶴樓), Wuhan University (武漢大學), Wuhan Iron and Steel Factory (武漢鋼鐵廠), Qintai Theater (琴台大劇院), Wu Bo Lane(戶部港), Kwong Kuo Walking Street (光谷步行街) and Hu Bei Provincial Museum (湖北省博物館). In Beijing, they visited the Forbidden City (故宮), Bird's Nest (鳥巢), Water Cube (水立方)and Chinese National Museum (中國國家博物館).
With so much precious experiences, students felt a deep sense of nationality. Many of them believed that they would visit Beijing again in the future and were willing to contribute to the success and development of our mother country.
