In order to help Secondary 1 new comers to better adapt to secondary school life, from 15th August to 25th August, 2011 we have organized a series of S1 Orientation Programme which include Smart Teens Discipline Training, Life Skills & Social Adaptation Lessons, Bridging Programme, Multiple Intelligences Lessons and Parents’ Orientation Day to familiarize our S1 students and their parents with the culture and school life of S. C. Gaw. Personal & Leadership Empowerment of S1 students through Discipline and Life Skills Training aimed at:
- Enabling our students to manage their studies and life;
- Enabling our students to know more about their strengths and weaknesses;
- Empowering them with stronger self-confidence and positive thinking;
- Enabling them to take a Paradigm Shift and see things in a more constructive and positive perspective;
- Empowering their capabilities through different activities, exercises and tasks; and
- Building better team spirit and greater sense of belonging.
Many habits, thinking styles, personal and social behaviors are starting to be shaped in this crucial period of growth and development --- the beginning of Junior Secondary. As an old Chinese saying goes, “planning leads to success; lack of planning leads to failure.” Therefore, it’s high time, as S1 students, to prepare relentlessly for the new secondary school life. A Smart Teens Discipline Training Programme was started on 15th August, 2011. This programme is one of the many preparations which provide our S1 students with a good opportunity to learn to be more self-discipline and self-motivated. On 19th August, 2011, a Passing-out Ceremony for the Smart S. C. Gawers was held. To start with, there was a speech given by our Principal, Ms Agnes Tang, to encourage our S1 students to be a ‘Difference Maker’ --- Life can be more meaningful and fruitful by making a difference to the lives of oneself and others. In the presence of the parents and teachers, the parade was inspected by Dr Tony Cheung, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Regional Commander of NTE of HKRSA and Chairman, Tsing Ma Lion Club, Lion Clubs International District 303, HK & Macao, China. (香港交通安全會新界南總區指揮官高級助理總監及國際獅子會總會中國港澳303區香港青馬獅子會會長張振雄博士) which was accompanied by our Principal, Ms Agnes Tang. Then it was followed by a Prize Presentation to the most outstanding patrol members. Finally, it was time for a reflective sharing by the members. And at the entrance of the Covered Playground, an exhibition of creative course works was open for the parents.
