Teachers' Day Celebrations—'Love our School & Respect our Teachers'
"Teachers are like shelters, they protect students from lightning and storm.
Teachers are like farmers, they put in great effort to nurture every single student.”
The Teachers' Day was indeed a great opportunity for students of S. C. Gaw to express their heartfelt gratitude to the teachers. Thanks to all our beloved teachers for their guidance and support throughout the year. As a token of respect for our teachers, the Parent-Teacher Association and the Student Union jointly organized activities and gathering on September 12, 2011, to celebrate the Teachers’ Day Representatives of each form expressed their thanks and gratitude to our teachers! What they have said brought happiness to the whole school, at the same time reminded us of the hard work of all teachers. Not only do our teachers pass on their knowledge to us, they also give us unconditional love, care and support. They often serve as good listeners, we like to seek them for advice in times of difficulties. They always offer us valuable feedbacks which enlighten and encourage us. Often, their opinions may change our minds and even our outlooks of life.
Of course, Teachers’ Day is not the only day for paying tribute to our teachers. Besides showing respect for them, student representatives sent thank you cards and flowers to all our teachers. The Parent-Teacher Association sincerely presents chocolate and goodwill cards to all teachers. We wish all teachers good health and a Happy Teachers’ Day!
To address the gathering, our Principal, Ms Agnes Tang delivered the following speech
‘Love our School & Respect our Teachers’
Dear Parents and Students,
As a reminder to all of the enduring importance of the teaching profession, the HKSAR Government has declared September 10 each year as Teachers’ Day. As a token of appreciation, the Parent-Teacher Association and the Students’ Union will be organizing activities on September 12, 2011 to celebrate this very special day—the Teachers’ Day. Your support to this memorable occasion is very much appreciated.
Hong Kong is currently undergoing major reforms in education. Our aim is to nurture our next generation to be analytical and critical in thinking, capable of self-reading, innovative and committed to serving the community. Being possessing the required professional knowledge and teaching skills, teachers are also educators with integrity and professionalism. At the dawn of the 21st Century, the work of teachers is becoming more and more diversified and professionalized. They have to devote time and energy to teaching, foster good relations with parents, take part in curriculum design, as well as to assist in organizing student-centered life-wide learning activities. In order to train up talented people for Hong Kong, teachers must engage in life-long learning to keep abreast of the latest development. Therefore, teachers are truly rendering meritorious service to our society and they are entrusted with arduous task of educating our young people.
‘Respect for teachers’ is an excellent Chinese tradition. Your teachers light up your life. They tender you with boundless love and give you inspiring advice. I sincerely hope that all students will appreciate the good-intentioned efforts of the teachers and be grateful to them for their teaching, care and guidance. Moreover, all parents should educate their children by precept and example to value the important contribution our teachers have made to the community.
As a token of respect for our teachers, the Parent-Teacher Association and the Student Union will jointly organize a ‘Love Our School & Respect Our Teacher Campaign’ on September 12, 2011 to celebrate the Teachers’ Day at the beginning of the school year.
Of course, Teachers’ Day is not the only day for paying tribute to our teachers. Besides showing respect for them, we may, from time to time, organize various activities to express our appreciation openly. On Teachers’ Day or at the beginning of the new school year, parents and students may organize some activities, such as extending best regards by telephone, mail or e-mail, sending goodwill cards and flowers. Certainly, our respect for teachers does not just start and end on one day. Our sincere gratitude to our teachers should be supported with action. Students should greet the teachers every day. Simple greetings or words like ‘good morning’, ‘good afternoon’, ‘good bye’ or ‘thank you’ are just good enough to bespeak appreciation and respect for our dedicated and committed teachers.
May I take this opportunity to call upon you to join me in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to our teachers. The best way to show your respect for your teachers is simple, that is, by trying your best and living up to the expectation of our Student Motto of ‘Diligence, Frugality, Loyalty & Faithfulness’, viz. paying due respect your teachers and superiors. Wishing you good health and happiness! Thank you.
