On 12th September, 2011 Mr Chan Tak-hang, an experienced Principal in the local education sector, (School Development Officer, QSIP of CUHK & Former Principal) was invited to TWGHs S. C. Gaw Memorial College to hold a sharing session with all the teaching staff on ‘School in the New Age—Building a Collaborative and Sustainable Work Culture through Capacity Enhancement’. In response to the rapid change of the society and family structure, schools and student learning have made tremendous changes. The students nowadays share very different values and point of view with teachers, making teaching and class management a great challenge. To cope with the changes, what kind of education is to be delivered in schools? Mr Chan shared with us his observation and strategies throughout the years and encouraged our staff to constantly catch up with the development of youth education in Hong Kong.
Through inspiring talk and sharing, our teachers did acquire a basic understanding of:
- the roles and functions of middle managers / teachers in the process of sustainable self-improvement of a school;
- the skills necessary for handling school problems effectively in a collaborative and harmonious work atmosphere;
- the importance of capacity and team building, they go hand in hand in school’s sustainable development as well as enhancement.
