祝福祖國:永遠昌盛繁榮
With Best Wishes: Everlasting Prosperity of the Chinese Nation!
Celebrating National Day --- Important Day at S. C. Gaw --- Students celebrated 62nd National Anniversary of the Establishment the People’s Republic of China at the Morning Assembly on 30th September, 2011. This year we have the honour of having Dr Tony Cheung, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Regional Commander of NTE of HKRSA and Chairman, Tsing Ma Lion Club, Lion Clubs International District 303, HK & Macao, China and Mr Kenneth Wu, Education Services Secretary of Tung Wah Group of Hospital to officiate at the Ceremony. (香港交通安全會新界南總區指揮官高級助理總監及國際獅子會總會中國港澳303區香港青馬獅子會會長張振雄博士及東華三院學務總主任吳奇壎先生)
In the Morning Assembly, all teachers and students of S. C. Gaw were gathering solemnly and respectfully to have our Flag Raising Ceremony in commemoration of the founding of our nation. Standing there in the playground, I watched the Chinese National Flag go up as the March of the Volunteers was played, an indescribable feeling of warmth welled up in my heart. There was an overwhelming surge of emotions and national feeling that flowed spontaneously.
The Flag Raising Ceremony, reaffirming our understanding of the National Flag, National Emblem, National Anthem and the rise of the Chinese Nation. United we stand, strengthened by the sense of belonging we have with our school, our beloved Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and our great nation. As depicted in our school motto, that is, Diligence (勤), Frugality (儉), Loyalty (忠) & Faithfulness (信), it fully portrays the spirit of whole-person development in cherishing the sense of belonging to school, community and the nation. This was echoed by Dr Cheung’s speech. Dr Cheung reminded us to appreciate that a “nation” does not only exist as a large community of people being in a particular territory under one government, it symbolizes certain expectations and ideals of its entire populace. Also, when we listen to the national anthem, we will understand what Chinese people hoped for and inspired to at that time. It also has a deeper meaning to all of us. To start with, being a good national citizen is the same as being a responsible student at school as well as a loving child at home.
From 26th September to 30th September, 62nd National Anniversary Education Series (國慶六十二週年教育活動系列) was launched. Celebration activities such as reading on national celebrations and cross-subject arrangement were organized. One major focus of student activities has always been to promote and implement National and Citizenship Education. We hope that our students can acquire a better understanding of China so that they can care for and love our nation. .
