On 9 January, 2012, Ms Mandy Tsang, Curriculum Development Officer - Gifted Education Section, EDB, was invited to provide a professional development training seminar on "Gifted Education: Catering for Learning Differences and Developing Students' Potential" to all the teaching staff. The seminar was organized by the Department of Multiple Intelligences and Gifted Education Section of the school and started at 2:00 pm.
Gifted education is part of education. In school, catering for individual differences usually focuses on supporting the less able. However, the more able ones also need support in terms of more challenging tasks and higher expectation of their performance. In the workshop, the concept of "giftedness" was touched upon. Illustrating with some videos, Ms Tsang demonstrated how questioning and feedback could facilitate high order thinking skills and creativity. Also, the three-tier operation mode (school-based whole-class, school-based pull-out and off-site support) in implementing gifted education was introduced.
With so many practical examples and background knowledge illustrated by Ms Tsang, our teachers were well equipped with confidence to enhance the performance of gifted students.
