To celebrate the Lunar New Year, a Fair was held at S.C.Gaw. On 10th February 2012, the whole school was filled with joy and fun. Early in the morning, students returned to school to decorate their counters. There were altogether 17 sales counters prepared by S.1 to S.4 students. After months of preparation, students work together to make their own arts and crafts. Goods were sold to the visitors, teachers and other schoolmates to raise money for charity purpose.
The opening ceremony of the Fair started at 1:00pm. To begin with, Principal Tang provided her welcome speech to all visitors and students. She appreciated the cooperation of students in preparing the sales counters and the works of all homeroom teachers in supporting their classes. Then, the atmosphere was aroused by the great performance of our award-winning Marching Band and Chinese Dance Team. At 1:30pm, the Fair counters officially opened. Students and visitors began to shop around searching for their favourite souvenirs.
In addition to the regular sales counters, there were other various leisure activities. There were 8 games counters run by the S.5 students, Student Union and ECA Team. An English learning activity was run in the school hall by our NETs Mark and Alexandra. There were Scrabbles and other English games so that students could polish their English vocabulary concerning Lunar New Year.
Interesting lantern riddles were set in the school podium on the 1/F. S.C.Gaw invited elderly visitors from the Elderly College to play the game. Our student helpers worked with the elderly to solve the riddles and students were astonished that many of them were smart and clever despite their difficulty of locomotion and reading properly.
At 4:30pm, the Fair came to an end. Most visitors and students enjoyed the games and were able to purchase their favourite products. To students, the Fair is meaningful and valuable. They are able to cooperate with their classmates to practice business activities which cultivate their skills of cooperation, organization and management. There is no doubt that the Fair brings to all students an unforgettable and meaningful memory in their school life.
