S.C.Gawers had an interesting Science and Mathematics journey from 8th to 14th May, 2012 in the Science and Mathematics Week held by the Science and Mathematics Subject Department. There were exciting games including Form One English for Science Competition, Form Two Mathematics Contest, Guess Game, Online Science Quiz Competition and the Science Project Competition.
For the English for Science competition, class representatives from S.1 were chosen from each class to participate in the activity. They prepared very hard and memorized the English terms they learned from the class. For the Mathematics Contest, class representatives from S.2 were chose and they need to solve the mathematics problems within the limited time. The guess game was named “King of Estimation” which required students to estimate the number of nuts in a closed bottle. The winner was good in estimation. Even though he could not get the correct number, there was only one nut in error. The theme of the Science Project Competition this year was “straw platform”. Each group of students had to make a platform made of 50 straws within 45 minutes. Moreover, the platform was able to support a can of soft-drink. Students used the knowledge they learned in Science to build the tallest platform.
The week was filled with joy and fun. Students took part in the interesting games and also strengthened the knowledge they had learned. The activities in the week showed that education can be carried out in an interesting and funny way.
