Reflection Assembly for the Major Areas of Concern
學校關注事項總結週會

To provide all-round education to students and to realize the educational goals and school ethos of the School Sponsoring Body, TWGHs, the Major Areas of Concerns of our school 2011-2012 are to (1) Develop Students’ Self-Learning Capacity for Effective Learning; (2) Optimise Students’ Competence in English through Language Across Curriculum and (3) Cultivate Students’ Personal Quality, Promoting National Education through Joint Efforts of Teaching, Discipline and Guidance.

After a year, this is the right time to take a reflection on how the objectives are carried out and what we have experienced during the last academic year. On 24th May, 2012, all S.C.Gawers met in the hall for the special assembly periods organized by the Board of Student Support. The assembly began when school prefects introduced a movie showing the activities of S.C.Gawers during the last years. Students discovered how they enjoyed the class competitions and how they were nurtured in the form-based pastoral care activities including civic, moral, sex, life and environmental education. They also realized that S.C.Gawers were active service providers who possessed high service spirit when the movie introduced their help to those elderly and primary school students. Besides, S.C.Gawers had a high sense of nationality as well. They were always ready to visit our motherland and welcome study tours from Mainland China. It was undeniable that S.C.Gawers had been cultivated with high personal and national quality through the joint efforts of teaching, discipline and guidance.

Then, there was a drama concerning Optimizing Students’ Competence in English through Language Across Curriculum. Through conversation with our exchange student Julian Bockermann, students discovered that we could learn English with fun. Julian further introduced his home Bielefeld, a city located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The whole school hall was filled with laughter when Julian and his fellow students ended the conversation with his familiar German songs and funny dance.

The final part of the assembly was to introduce how the school developed students’ self-learning capacity for effective learning. School prefects told students how self-learning could be achieved through our school web pages including reading and pronunciation practice through English Campus, understanding current affairs through LS Campus and the searching of useful supporting tools through our School Library website. They further showed some interesting notes from fellow students. Students were astonished that notes could be taken in such a systematic, tidy, picture-rich and colourful way.

The assembly came to an end after an hour. Students were deeply impressed by the presentation and they knew that it was not the end. On the contrary, it is the beginning of S.C.Gawers to be ready and move on until we are actually able to use English in our everyday life, to study by ourselves and to be highly sensitive citizens who are always ready to devote themselves to the development of our mother country.
