S.4 Study Trip in Taiwan
中四級台灣歷史文化遊學團
85 Form four students and 9 teachers went to Taiwan from 27th to 29th June, 2012. The trip aimed at studying the cultural and historical aspects of Taiwan. The tour started in the morning on 27th June. Students and teachers took the China Airlines from Hong Kong to Taiwan at 11:00 am. During the three days, they visited a number of cultural and historical sites including Tamsui Old Street (淡水老街) , Tamsui Historical Museum (淡水紅毛城), Ketagalan Culture Centre (凱達格蘭原住民文化館), Jiu Fen Mountain City (九份山城), Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂), National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (國父紀念館), National Palace Museum (故宮博物院) and Martyrs' Shrine (忠烈祠). Students gained a complete understanding of the history of Taiwan and the relationship between Taiwan and Mainland China. Besides historical aspects, students learned more about the lives of Taiwan people through visiting Shihlin Night Market (士林夜市), Beitou Library (北投圖書館), Taipei 101 (台北101) and Eslite Bookstore's (Flagship Store) (誠品書店) (旗艦店).

All-round education was provided to students during the trip and it started right after the time the students made the decision for the trip. Many of the students had to apply their first Hong Kong Passports and the Entry Permits to Taiwan. Some students, born in Mainland China, even had to go directly to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (臺北經濟文化辦事處) to apply for their Visas. Documentations aside, the whole journey required students to speak in Mandarin and they were divided into groups to take care of their members and finish their group reports.

The journey was supported by the Community Care Fund (關愛基金). With the help of the fund, poor families could support their students to take part in study tours and obtained the precious opportunities to learn outside Hong Kong boundary.

The journey finished on 29th June but it was not the end of the story. When students returned Hong Kong, typhoon signal number 8 was hosted. It was such an unforgettable and exciting experience for those brave S.C.Gawers (and their teachers!) when they were all on the sky accompanied by a ferocious typhoon. Students and teachers were all safe and they all thanked Mr. Yiu and his friend, transportation company representatives who took them home under urgent call even when the road condition was beyond desirable
