S1 New Students' Induction Programme
中一新生導入活動
S.1 New Students’ Induction Programme consisted of two phases. The first phase was S.1 Bridging Course which ran from 18th to 20th July. In the second phase, a series of programmes were launched from 13th to 24th August, 2012.
From 18th – 20th July, 2012, a Bridging Course was held. The dual purposes of the course were to equip S.1 new students with basic subject knowledge for the coming academic year and to facilitate our students’ interest in using English as a medium of instruction. Each S.1 student was provided with a JS1 Bridging Handbook and JS1 Student Orientation Handbook —“My Personal Profile” 我的手冊。 The JS1 Bridging Handbook consists of exercises for all subjects, especially on Science and Integrated Humanities that English is used as a medium of instruction. For other subjects like Music and P.E., more English vocabulary and practices were also given to our students so as to enhance their confidence in learning English. The JS1 Student Orientation Handbook focuses on some important information regarding our school such as Form-based Pastoral Care, Invitational Education, subject curriculum, school rules, clubs & societies, planning log & diaries, etc.
The Induction Programme in August was divided into four sections. The first section was S.1 Pioneer Leader Training. Students were given training in life skills and foot drill in the mornings from 13th to 17th August. Through the training, students truly understand the virtue of “Perseverance & Determination” and realize how “Discipline” contributes to the success of their school life.
In the afternoons, the second section – the S.1 School Life Adoption Programme was implemented. With the help of school social workers and peer group guidance leaders, S.1 students learned how to adapt to norms and regulations at school by playing the games, namely “Familiarizing with the Bilingual Morning Assembly”, “Reading the School Calendar”, “Knowing of Our Teachers”, “Learning the School Song”, and “Recognizing the Campus”.
The third section was English Drama Training held in the mornings from 20th to 23rd August. Through joining the activities led by native English teachers, students learned the ways to express themselves more effectively in English under different situations, thus enhancing their confidence in speaking English.
The final section was the Sports & Multiple Intelligences Development Activities. In order to develop students’ interest and potential, our School organized multiple intelligence education programs in the afternoons from 20-23 August. The programs included music, sport and aesthetic training. We offered various courses that were conducted by experienced coaches from the fields such as soccer, fencing, martial arts, Latin dance, rugby, Chinese dance, woodwind and brass. It is believed that new students’ time going to our school must be pleasurable and unforgettable.
