Algebra Enrichment I and II was a Mathematics programme jointly organized by the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education and TWGHs S. C. Gaw Memorial College. Nineteen primary students from different primary schools in the Kwai-Tsing district were enrolled in this programme. These talented primary students will be promoted to primary six in September 2012.

The programme consists of two phases. In phase I, the main topic was “Equations and their applications”. Solving equation is one of the core topics in mathematics. The students were taught to solve different kinds of equations such as simultaneous equations of two unknowns and quadratic equation in one unknown. In phase II, the students were taught some more advanced topics in Algebra. They included proof of divisibility and summation of some sequences. Through solving some mathematical problems and hands-on card games, these students developed an inquiring mind in Mathematics.

The programme has been completed on 20th August 2012. It was our honor to have invited Mr Abraham Tang king-hong, the Associate Director (Student Programmes & Services) of HKAGE to present the certificates to the students. Mr Tang gave an inspiring talk to the student participants in which he emphasized the force of interest to motivate us to learn.
