First Form-Based Pastoral Care Activities
第一次級本導育活動
To cater for the diverse needs of students in different forms, the arrangements for form-based pastoral care activities have been made. On 12th September, 2012, the first form-based pastoral activities were held with the joint efforts of the Board of Student Support and the Board of Studies.
S.1 to S.5 students learnt a wide range of study skills in their classroom. Homeroom teachers introduced more effective ways of learning to students and encouraged students to apply skills like the “SQ3R”, the “5W1H” and the “10 Memorizing Techniques” in their study. Through these methods, students are able to remember major concepts easily and study independently. Then, they were told to fill in a study plan. They were asked to predict the scores on different subjects that they are able to get for the coming first term standard tests and think how they can reach their goals. The expected marks will be used to compare with the actual marks so that students can assess their academic outcomes and see whether improvements have been made with the help of their teachers.
To enable our S.6 students to take an active step and attitude towards their study, a ‘From our Heart’ sharing session was arranged. Our Vice-principal Mr. Tam was invited to share the experience of his secondary education with the students. He talked about how students can manage time efficiently and how they can strengthen their competitive power in order that they can cope with the forthcoming Hong Kong diploma of Education Examination without any difficulty. Mr. Tam further introduced the importance of stress management to students and told them the major examination hints of how they can score good results in the public examination.
The‘Essential Qualities 重要素質’ outlined by Mr. Tam were:
1. Meeting Challenges 接受挑戰
2. Planning 訂定計劃
3. Maximizing your Strength 揚長避短
4. Concentration 集中精神
After that, the first meeting was hosted by the chairmen and vice-chairmen of each class for students. The issues like the class objectives, class rules and various administrative works were in the meeting. Furthermore, they had to arrange the election of a large amount of duties such as health ambassadors, civic pioneers and subject helpers. Although it was their first time handling a class meeting, they were able to run the schedule smoothly and end the meeting on time. They told their classmates that they were good leaders and the votes on them were absolutely correct.
