The Assembly on the Yearly Theme and the Major Areas of Concerns
年度主題及學校關注事項週會
On 21st September, 2012, there was an assembly arranged by the Board of Student Support introducing all the students the yearly theme and major areas of concerns for the school year of 2012-13. When all S.C.Gaw students gathered in the hall, the student prefects introduced the yearly theme ‘Be Self-directed, Self-disciplined and Compassionate’ to the rest of the students. To achieve the theme, there were three major concerns:
1. Promoting Quality Teaching to Achieve Active and Effective Learning;
2. Optimizing Students’ Competence in English through Language Across Curriculum and
3. Strengthening Moral and Civic Education as well as Establishing a Caring School Culture
To make the yearly theme vivid, the student performers presented the first major concern by means of a drama. They played the roles of teachers and students and showed different effective and efficient learning skills such as the skills of making preparations for the upcoming classes and the skills of making notes. After that, there was a video showing two major English enhancement schemes: After School Great Movies and Life-wide English Learning. The performers further told students how the measures like the Campus Radio, Library Reading Periods, the LAC Learning Kit and the use of English in our daily school life can be done for the Language Across Curriculum.
At last, the final major concern was introduced. The student prefects told all the students about how the programme can be run by our school authority in order to establish a caring school culture. The ‘Smoke-free community program’ aims at promoting the message of ‘no-smoking’ in the society. The Healthy School Program is to enable our students to be aware of the importance of ‘Healthy School Life’ and the ‘Pupil Ambassador : Active, Bright and Caring’ programme is to encourage students to think positively and be mercifully. Although all the programmes are under different titles, they follow same target. The target is tomake students become self-directed, self-disciplined and compassionate. To express our determination, there was a swearing-in ceremony run by the chairmen of four houses and the student ambassadorswho guided all the students to make a vow.
