A talk on "Smoke-free Environment" was held on 14 Nov 2012 in our school. Mr. Yu, a Chinese medicine practitioner, was invited by the HK Council on Smoking and Health (COSH) to be the guest speaker. Mr. Yu presented the latest information on several issues concerning smoking: tobacco control, the origin and types of tobacco, harmful effects of smoking and passive smoking, legislation and law enforcement in Hong Kong, smoking cessation services and promotional tactics of the tobacco industry, as well as the importance of a smoke-free living environment. In the talk, students are able to learn more about tobacco control and the real correlation between smoking and health.

We believe educating the youngsters about tobacco control is effective in helping them to recognize the significance of a smoke-free environment, to refuse the first cigarette, and to quit smoking with friends and family.

This talk is only one of the programs of "Smoke-free Community" which was organized by the PLK and Department of Health. A series of other programs will be held later in this year in order to establish the determination of students to fight for a smoke-free living environment.
