Music was in the air and the audience was mesmerized on 20th December 2012 in the school hall when we have our Annual Singing Contest (Final) 2012-13. Those in the hall was captivated, that they were enjoying every moment was shown by the applause that followed each performance.

Enthusiastic contestants presented delightful pieces of works in Class, Solo and Group sections. The Singing Contest aims at encouraging students to participate in music performances and activities. It is also a good way to build self-esteem and develop confidence among S. C. Gawers. Throughout this musical journey, the audience grasped in astonishment the fluency and competence contestants shown through the events. Their musical talent was unbelievable, the range immeasurable.

Class singing was lively and energetic, with songs chosen from movies, folk songs, Broadway musicals and Christmas Carols. Adjudicators remarked “creative; cooperative; show the spirit of the school; the standard in music is extremely high” best summed up the performance of 6C, 5C and 5A. Though it was hard for the adjudicators to decide the champion, 6C finally emerged as the winner.

In the Solo section, we were caught in the mellow melodies of ‘Missing’, ‘I Believe’ & ‘Rain Drops Keep Failing on My Head’. Chan Hei Kai from 6D, her ‘Missing’ impressed the adjudicators most and she became the Champion.

The smooth switching from solo and duet singing to band playing was seen in the Group section. ‘Wake me up when the September Ends’, ‘Jet Lag’ and ‘我一直都在’ enthralled audience and eventually “Black List’ with ‘Wake me up when September Ends’ carried away the Championship.

And the climax --- an ecstatic Singing performance by Ms. Claire and a Dancing performance by Mr. Hui as well as student dancers that the S. C. Gawers first listening with rapt attention and then participating with joyful ‘Gangnam’ Style and Fervour!

In the Finale that speaks most fittingly for S. C Gawers with the Dancing performance from the S6 Graduation Classes. Dancers nimbly trading and swaying to the strong beats in the joyous music and lively rhythm best reflected the spirit of S. C. Gaw. What the dancers of our S6 Graduation classes have portrayed to their fellow schoolmates --- Graduation is not an end; it is a beginning --- the spirit of S. C Gaw be always with them as they set their eyes on their future!

We must acknowledge the efforts from the Music Department, the Music Club, the Backstage Team, the school photographers, teachers and the janitor staff as well as the Principal and the adjudicators. Without it, the music event would not have been such a success
