東華聯校教師發展日 - 價值教育與東華精神
The Tung Wah Joint School Development Day was held on 9th January 2013. Staffs from all primary and secondary schools were invited to attend. To all Tung Wah staffs, the day is especially meaningful as we are not talking about general education theories or advanced teaching methodologies, but digging deep into the core values of Tung Wah Education and Tung Wah Spirit.
The welcoming speech was provided by Mrs. CHAN MAN Yee-wai, Viola, Chairman, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Honorary Supervisor, Tung Wah Secondary, Primary and Special Schools, and Tung Wah Kindergartens. She encouraged our staffs to learn from the founders of Tung Wah and put their educational spirits into practice in the development of Tung Wah education.

To thank for the support of our honorable guests and consultants, there was a presentation of Souvenirs to Guests and Certificate of Appreciation to Education Consultants. It was followed by the Ms. Maisy Ho, 4th Vice-Chairman, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Chairman, Education Committee of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, who reported the all-round professional development in Tung Wah Schools.
The keynote speech was provided by Professor CHENG Yin-cheong, Acting President, The Hong Kong Institute of Education and his topic was ‘Multiple Values Education: Tung Wah Spirit’. Mr. Cheng shared with us his interesting stories that inspired us the important role of teachers to establish the values of our students. Through his research, we realise the significance and contribution of Tung Wah Spirit and teacher quality to the Hong Kong education in achieving the very high status in the world and understand that multiple values education is the foundation of national, civic, moral religious, and liberal education.
After a break, Mr. Wong Ho-chiu, Honorary Curriculum Consultant, Tung Wah Moral Education gave us a sharing session on ‘Tung Wah Spirit in Tung Wah’s Moral Education’. Through in-depth analysis of historical records, he told us how Tung Wah Spirit in terms of ‘Diligence, Frugality, Loyalty and Faithfulness’ were put into practice and how our students can be nurtured and developed through Tung Wah’s Moral Education.
Teachers learn a lot on the day. Besides a complete understanding of Tung Wah Spirit, we realise that they are noble characters that serve as mottos not only to the way we teach our students but also the way we face our life.
