The 28th School Athletic Meet
第二十八屆學校陸運會

On 6th and 7th February 2013, the two-day school athletic meet was held on Kwai Chung Sports Ground. The whole school participated in this exciting occasion and there were more than 400 students took part as athletes, student helpers and members of cheering teams.

The opening ceremony was held on the first day and started when athletes from Houses of Diligence, Frugality, Loyalty and Faithfulness marched into the sports venue. With the accompaniment of the National Anthem, the Boy Scouts raised the flags. The opening address was made by our Principal, Ms Tang Wai Chun, Agnes. She encouraged our students to take part in the Athletic Meet with sportsmanship and wished everyone success. Then the athletes took the oath. After the horn ceremony by our Principal, the event of the day was kicked off and the competition began!

During the two days, all kinds of track and field events were on schedule. There were 100 to 3000M races, hurdles, relays, high jumps, long jumps, triple jumps, shot puts, discus throws and javelin throws. All of the students who competed in the Athletic Meet put their best efforts in the competition. They were bent on setting and breaking records!

To promote Integrated Education and to encourage our students to have a better understanding of people with disabilities, our school launched a ‘Handicapped Race’ on the second day of the Athletic Meet. Just like those disabled athletes, our students used wheelchairs. Through the race, students appreciated the strong willpower of their disabled team members and learned to have more respect on the lives and more concerns on the needs of those disabled people.

The last program of these two days was the closing ceremony. It was our pleasure to have Mr. Pat Laidler, Senior Superintendent of Police, Hong Kong Police Force and Ms. Yu Chui-yee MH, Gold Medalist of Paralympic Games to be the guests of honour.

To begin with, there was a martial art performance. Their fighting skills no matter barehanded or with weapons were marvelous. Then our guests of honour presented their closing addresses. Mr. Laidler appreciated the performance of the athletes and advised our students to keep the spirit of sport. Ms. Yu encouraged our students not to give up when they face challenges. After the prize presentation to the Overall Champions and the House, the two-day Athletic Meet came to an end.

During these two days, there were winners who got their prizes and raised their hands to the spectators while there were athletes who needed to be cheered up by their friends. No matter what has happened to us, the spirit of sport and the unforgettable memories would be with us. We are all winners.
