The 28th Graduation Ceremony
第二十八屆畢業典禮

The 28th Graduation Ceremony for our S.6 graduates of 2012-13 was held on 24th May, 2013. This year we have the honour of having Mr Irons Sze, JP, President, The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong to officiate at the Ceremony. The presence of Mr Sze Wing Hang, Supervisor, 1st Vice-Chairman, 2013/14 TWGHs Board of Directors, Mrs Rossana Gaw, our School Donor, Mr Tse Kwok Wai, PTA Chairman cum Parent Manager and Ms Tsang Shanna, PTA Vice-Chairperson and Alternate Parent Manager as well as distinguished guests graced the occasion.

After the procession of the official party led by our Principal, Ms Tang Wai Chun, Agnes into the School Hall, the ceremony started. A Welcoming Speech was delivered by Mr Sze Wing Hang. He congratulated our graduates and encouraged them to bear in mind the school motto,“Diligence, Frugality, Loyalty & Faithfulness” when they strived for their excellence in the future. The remarkable development of the school in recent years was confirmed and the provision of all-round education at S. C. Gaw was witnessed.

Then our Principal gave a brief report on the achievements of our students in academic and non-academic areas as well as affirming the hard work we paid in the building up of language rich environment for a quality EMI school which was by far most rewarding. She also took the opportunity to thank our School Supervisor, Mr Sze and School Donor, Mrs Gaw for their unwavering support and generous donations. At last, she wished that the spirit of S. C. Gaw would continue to grow and guide our graduates on their roads of success and happiness.

It was very kind of Mr Irons Sze, JP, to officiate at the Ceremony. He highlighted the importance of secondary education to youngsters and sincerely urged our graduates to do three things well in advance before they established their career paths: “Don’t be afraid of ‘Losing’ or ‘gaining nothing’”, “Be conscientious” and “Widen your perspective and keep learning”. He was sure that our graduates could create a world of their own and make our world a better place for everyone and he wished all our graduates a bright and prosperous future.

The Speech Day reached its climax when the homeroom teachers announced the names of our graduates and our Guest of Honour presented certificates and our Supervisor, Mr Sze as well as our School Donor, Mrs Gaw gave out scholarships and prizes in academic and co-curricular activities to the graduates. The vote of thanks was then given by the representative of our graduates, Ms. Lai Wing-yan.

The day was further embellished by an impressive performance of English Musical – “The Princess and the Cowherd”. The story is about a foreign exchange student Dolly who is feeling lost on her first day of school at Shooting Stars Academy – a school for gifted performers, singers, actors and dancers. It’s her birthday, but no one seems to have remembered – not even her best friends from Canada, her home country. Her arrival does not go as well as she had hoped, and she finds herself an enemy in fame-hungry Carmen, who convinces the others that she is too ambitious to be a friend. But does Dolly have what it takes? Can she overcome her shyness in order to truly shine? Or is she destined to be friendless forever? Dolly meets our reticent heroine as she journeys back into the beautiful mythology of Ancient China, and tries her best to transform herself into shining star, all while making a few new friends on the way.

The Musical that involved hundreds of students got the applause of all the audience and was highly appreciated by our guests, graduates, parents and students.

The Ceremony was over but it is the beginning of the journey of our graduates. Soon each of them will go forth, in his or her unique direction, seeking to make a mark upon the world. They have grown up. They must seize their future and taking it into their own hands striving towards excellence. Here again we wish them all a wonderful life.
